Unreasonable

I want to go
where hollow flames sing silly songs
while watching icy intellect melting

I want to see
proud scholars weeping
in abject fear of their self-doubt

I want to hear
a young child's laughter
protected from the flow of time

I want to feel
the joy of faith
with skeptic smugness left behind

I want to taste
just a moment of pure, sweet freedom
unfettered by the bonds of reason

An elegant wish list Michael; almost prayerful in tone. We reason from what we know and sadly, we don't know diddly. Especially liked the climate change intro, if that is what you were invoking in particular. Cheers! - Dan

(Sometimes educated people who flaunt their academic prowess
just irk me)...
I love listening to children's laughter...

Thanks Jason - The poem is a p----off complaint to myself about my own problems with writing heart-felt, spontaneous poetry. I want to kick the butt of my inner academician.

I agree. This is like a prayer. I've lately found that freedom is being a 48 yo 6 yo and allowing my ridiculous inner child out. She has no social shame at all, but she does have the benefit of experience. Go do it! Be free. Write whatever comes out.

very cool poem. i really like how you outlined such a radical shift in comprehension as a simple, straightforward wish list. too often, it seems, points such as these are made unnecessarily complex or are connotated with some dogma for the sake of discussion, understanding etc. what you wrote feels free and honest. i particularly like how you write of hearing a child's laughter outside of time. i mean, the whole thing is spot on, but that line manages to perfectly balance itself between the innocence of a child's laughter and the weighty paradox of the 'outside of time' idea. not an easy feat yet you make it look easy. bravo!
