The Fields

Post by bunsen » December 15th, 2015, 12:33 am

When I was seven my
little brother played outside the kitchen
with Jimmy from Redfern farm
where his father and mother lived
tending the fields for the Graysons

they played near where my mother
would set a large pot on the boil
to clean the fields from our clothes

Jimmy threw a stick and my bother ran
backwards to catch it and fell into the pot

my mother grabbed him up and went running
screaming into the fields for my father

they took him to Peacedale for Dr. Woods
when they took off his shirt his skin came with it

he died three days later
they buried him next to a large Hickory

wow...even knowing what board I was in, I was still stunned at the outcome. how awful...the grief of a mother is already so deep, but the traumatic and unfair way that life takes itself back from children is too much to endure sometimes. just aint right. - dew

Powerfully written and a painful way to go; with self-recriminations all-around and forever too I'd guess. Cheers Bunsen! - Dan
Short an impactful as was his life; with not a word wasted in the requiem.

The most impactful thing I have read in a while.
Literally knocked the wind out of my sails.

Wow, best piece I've read in a while. So powerful and direct, and folksy all at the same time. Tremendous use of simple, direct lines and stanzas. Awesome.

Your poem painted a picture of utter heartbreak and death. Your words tore at the very heart stings of my soul.
Great poem structure. Helps to comprehend the emotional waves of pain written throughout the message. Great writing! Thank You for sharing.
