Monarchy-Patriarchy

Post by Inspiration_ » December 25th, 2015, 1:03 am

We sit upon butterfly wings
Upon the Monarch
Orange surrounds the pools of black
We are the black
Ravines that cut and disrupt

Fluttering is a constant
Movement disrupts a movement
But the black will travel the veins
Peachy, diaphanous appendages will choke
Suffocated with ebony dispersion

Lovely is the Monarch
Proud, strong, resistant
A Monarch must have its black, however
It has no distinction without the conflict of black and orange
A Monarch purely tangerine will suffer: I laugh

I love this and I love that the metaphor is not really implied, leaving the reader to come up with it on their own. I saw a similar piece many years ago and I have been struggling to do the same thing since, but it has never turned out. You accomplished the feat here.

You get from art what you bring to it. If I have made an impactful comment on one of your poems, please click here and provide a link to the comment or the poem on which it was made. Then pay it forward by commenting on two other pieces (in addition to the 3:1 requirement)

Not quite sure how to take this one and why it is in the anger,
and where patriarchy fits in - but it is well written...
My politically oriented soul seems to see racial prejudice here
but that is probably not the case...
This was really colourful and descriptive - well done.

I really like that final line. Great stuff here! :)
