The lessons of time.
Post
by whitbypoet1 » July 21st, 2015, 4:04 pm
Wearily wandering, silently by
The dreams and the wishes of yesterday’s sky,
Remembering far away promises made
Just pieces of flotsam adrift in the shade,
Like explorers of truthfulness they travel on,
Until every connection with yesterday’s gone,
And yet some go on drifting to islands of Prayer
To be cast up forever on golden sands there.
Patiently pondering all that has been
The lessons of time paint a silken sad scene,
While they sit in reflection, and wondrous disdain
As the pages of life turn so slowly again,
But sometimes so rarely, the bookmark of time
Glitters morning set softly like wonderful rhyme,
And the sun settles silver lined fingers once more
As the birth of a day consecrates its own shore.
Then the pages stay open in day dancing light
As those satin soft shadows retreat to the night,
And the dreams and the wishes that drifted in vain
Fall asleep in the chapters of life once again,
But the bookmark still shines with a fireside glow
Though the rains still come down, and the breezes still blow,
For the beacon is lit with the harbour’s deep fire
And the lost hopes and dreams feel each dreamer‘s desire
When each dream finds a dreamer, each hope finds a heart
And then sometimes so preciously, love finds a start,
As the music of life finds a way to renew
All those wonderful things that two dreamers can do,
When the hours are dark, and the passion is deep
And when love is abroad, there is no need for sleep,
For the night is embroidered so delicately
With all that has been, and with all that will be…

I am in awe. This poem made me smile at its end. The entire last stanza really shouted spotlight for me, but the whole poem... What beautiful, romantic and wistful flow in the rhythm; I envy what clarity your style of writing holds, yet deployed so poetically to get that romantic balance for a romantic poem. Conveying the romances of life in the imagery of a book with its own chapters- volatile storyline and bookmarks to ponder over- was a powerful example of a true poet who knows his craft. My favourite lines were: The lessons of time paint a silken sad scene,
While they sit in reflection, and wondrous disdain
As the pages of life turn so slowly again
But, again, the last stanza was the one that sealed the deal for me. I am charmed. I will read this again and again. Thank you for the pleasure of a truly magical read.

Really beautiful. As mentioned, the last stanza is outstanding. It sings with philosophy and a sense of uplifting optimism. This bookmark is bookmarked in my timeline. Regards. Michael

I really liked the way you fused the desires of the inner self with some beautiful island or sea shore, this is a very nicely written rhyming piece of a dream come true - Falstaff

Exceptional!
The structure was easy on the eyes, flowed extremely well. The rhyming was Great
The overall poem was splendid. The very last line was my favorite.
"With all that has been and with all that will be."
I loved it. Thanks

I liked the thought expressed by this line:
When each dream finds a dreamer, each hope finds a heart
My personal favorite:
For the night is embroidered so delicately
With all that has been, and with all that will be…
Congratulations on the TPS Spotlight.

What I lke is the delicate structure of this great poem. It gently pictured a fall of light, a ray of glowing hope.
The words chosen only add to this tapestry of enchantment, the language of dreams.
much enjoyed
