My leaves of Autumn

Post by trell11 » May 26th, 2012, 6:10 pm

Kind of long but worth a read please continue

Two leaves
falling slowly
in time
seems like an eternity
for the leaves wishing to fall forever not realizing the ground beneath them
or the other leaves around them
gently and slowly circling
as cool and warm breezes pull them apart
to other leaves
other trees
falling
moving around
in empty space and time
a colorful rainbow of emotions
yellow, orange and brown
changing
ever changing
with time
falling
slowly falling
the leaves of autumn

Cloudy skies
Dark pillow of gloom
produce raindrops
painful, joyful raindrops
piercing hearts
and weighing them down
helping the leaves fall faster
faster towards the ground
and the leaves experienced eyes see
see the space is not forever
that emotions and time
are not forever
that this falling
slowly falling
will not last
forever

the ground is near
and it seems like the leaves have been here a long time
old and worn by the wind
falling
slowly falling
blackened by time
moist from the raindrops
now soiled from the ground
never to fall again

Rebirths the carcasses
of the fallen leaves
spawns newly fallen leaves
and more trees
but, never again
shall the two leaves or the group of leaves
fall again
by the same tree
be carried by the same breeze
or share raindrops
forever
falling
slowly
gently
My leaves of Autumn
nevermore

Wow, this is grand! The concept of the leaves is just brilliant. To keep up such a wonderful pace on a long piece is so very hard to do. You hit this one out of the park! It kept getting better. I was totally sucked in. I was sad to arrive at the end! Consider this bookmarked for sure! Masterful write, truly! -R xoxo

Yes son, this is really good. Autumn can be gloomy and evoke feelings of mortality. Peace

Trell, I enjoyed this poem, not just for what it was, which was well crafted and lovely, but because it reminded me of a song my grandmother used to sing to me....

COME LITTLE LEAVES
by George Cooper

“Come, little leaves” said the wind one day,
“Come over the meadows with me, and play;
Put on your dresses of red and gold;
Summer is gone, and the days grow cold.”

Soon as the leaves heard the wind’s loud call,
Down they came fluttering, one and all;
Over the brown fields they danced and flew,
Singing the soft little songs they knew.

“Cricket, good-bye, we’ve been friends so long;
Little brook, sing us your farewell song-
Say you’re sorry to see us go;
Ah! you are sorry, right well we know.

“Dear little lambs, in your fleecy fold,
Mother will keep you from harm and cold;
Fondly we’ve watched you in vale and glade;
Say, will you dream of our loving shade?”

Dancing and whirling the little leaves went;
Winter had called them and they were content-
Soon fast asleep in their earthly beds,
The snow laid a soft mantle over their heads.

I fell in love with your Poe like paw prints, especially at the end. My favorite line is the one talking about the leaves who wish to fall forever, unaware of the ground below them. I read this a few days ago and it keeps surfacing in my thoughts. The poem's shape even held to the truth of falling leaves.
Thank you,
Josie

A very skillfully crafted extended metaphor between leaves and human life, this is done with subtlety and a committment to the metaphor until the end which makes many people read it in a very direct, straightforward way, yet upon consideration the parallels with human existence are all apparent. The final stanza, the 're-birth', shows how we can leave our mark on the world long beyond our mortality.
Congratulations on the spotlight.

Hello trell11,
My leaves of Autumn
nevermore
Yes, everything about our existence is transient, and your leaves demonstrate that fact nicely. Congrats on the well-deserved spotlight.

Go well.
