A Wild Awakening
Post
by Forestdawn » January 4th, 2016, 2:58 am
She stood there and smiled at me sweetly
From the foot of my four poster bed;
Darkness surrounded the bedroom
Except for the glow 'round her head.
Rubbing my eyes into focus,
Awakened by something unknown,
Translucent she moved in the silence,
Aware that I wasn't alone.
"I Love You" she said to me softly,
And then with a blink she was gone.
Had I envisioned my mother this morning
In the earliest time before dawn?
Holding my breath without knowing,
Releasing the tears as I cried,
This moment I shared with my mother
Was just two days after she'd died.
Realizing I hadn't been dreaming,
No reason to ask myself why,
I knew the quest of her visit
Was returning to tell me good-bye

A blessed return as a balm for the love she left behind FD. Unfinished business will forever be my bane I'm afraid. This was a serene telling of a rare moment that lingers with the reader as well. Blessings and cheers! - Dan

I once had a dream in which my father told me not to worry about him, that he was alright and the angels sang our names to him all the time. I don't believe in angels but it was a haunting yet strangely reassuring experience. You brought tears to my eyes with this simple yet powerful poem. Thank you.

The souls of our loved ones remain with us where ever we are, they give us hope, guidance, and love. This poem was an example of that powerful bond that remains. A touching connection.

Hello Forestdawn,
A lovely poem, visually pleasing and with a simple but effective rhyming scheme that held the underlying story together. The metre scanned beautifully and so naturally - I'm very envious, so often one is aware that a rhythm is laboured ... here it just flowed.
As to the content ... it was full of surprises - first your mother and then the review of the conversation and the unveiling of its spiritual nature. I was profoundly struck by the phrase "returning to tell me good-bye" which, for me, implied a "one-way" statement.
After my first wife died I was for some time rather disturbed until I became a little reconciled - I wish I'd had that experience of yours. Thank you for sharing it with us.
In friendship - and a well deserved TPS,
Eric.
In friendship,
Eric.

This raised my hair on my head and the back of my neck! By the Eternal FD you're one scary poetess.
Here we are separated by half a continent and you have just written about my experience!

Congratulations Forestdawn, a poignant and calming poem, skilfully constructed. I read it three times and felt a gentle peace.
