Change
There are prophetic moments when life turns on its axis,
Not heralding change like first fires of autumn,
Or as baby’s soft flutters confirm life within,
But signalling movement, an enticement to action,
For change is occurring, no choice but join in.
Time does not march it meanders in triumph,
Demanding all that exist trek hard on its path,
The strong are marked for success in defiance,
And although the meek are promised the kingdom,
Time shows no mercy for displays of compliance.
Inner thoughts urge our souls to act in realms disturbing,
Change is hard but peace comes not from wasting time in erring,
Delay gives time occasion to believe its power sublime,
So prophetic moments are catalysts sent from the source,
Alerting souls to change and censuring time in its course.

Re: Change
I am caught up in this piece, as I can't quite get a hold of the rhyme scheme, though I do enjoy it. It was subtle enough, and I love the 11 beat lines. I hope to be further illuminated by the comments to follow below.

Re: Change
AH HA! - The rhyme scheme; as variable as everything else we might otherwise assume fixed in our organized error. Not a distraction Mollie, as the poem was so well written. In particular, I was interested in the biblical lot of the weak / meek - and just as I'd suspected too. Welcome to TPS and this poem was wonderfully wrought - cheers! - Dan

Re: Change
Thanks to you ObsidianMule and Dan for your comments, much appreciated. The poem, written some years ago, flowed through me; I didn't plan rhyme scheme and would appreciate further comments.

Re: Change
This poem changes with every reading. I've read it five times, and each time I did, I got different aspects from it. That's the work of a serious poet.
Nice!

Re: Change
Hello Mollie,
A lovely and subtle read. I particularly liked that thought-provoking "prophetic moments are catalysts"
Not an easy read ... as there's a lot going on in the background to think about.
Thank you.

Re: Change
Just today I reflected upon how many times I have moved in my life, 30+ times in 30 years. Indeed, it seems to me like change is my home. So, right away, your title got me.
I find your words to be a wonderful reflection on one's position in the flow of life, and how one can relate to and respond appropriately. It is almost like you dress up time and change as a character, not some unknown force. And, of course, the pinning point where all of it turns on, the prophetic. It subtly ties together your imagery into purpose.
Indeed, so much can come from paying attention and responding well to those markers you see down the road.. Thank you for this write, I have enjoyed it.

Re: Change
Thank you IronHeart. I have moved many times in my life as well -- physically and otherwise. I suppose moving and changing are part of the human condition; as long as we learn along the way change is grand. I hope your path has few bumps and many high peaks :)

Re: Change
I have a feeling that you are wise beyond years.
Rare it is that a poet has such a grasp on time along with the ability to put it into words .
many bows, Jim

Re: Change
Thank you Jim. I might add, I have many years and experiences to include in my poetry. Profound happenings alter us in ways we find hard to express in general conversation. Poetry delivers a medium by which we can express the often inexpressible.
