Tired Melancholy

Tired Melancholy
February’s rain-drenched nightmares interrupted
Daylight is sluggish; weary, reluctant to breathe
Grey on the painter’s tray spilling into the black
A neighbour’s circular saw whining into the murk
Early start for Inconsiderate Jim
There’s nobody to reach for; not for years now
The aches play a game of tag through my bones
Deep motorcycle burbles from the soaking street
My dreamcatchers drift and spin, cloud-shadowed
They never catch a thing
Only in the quietest moments, your demons speak
To laugh behind their hands at unuttered distress
“Look at you, lying alone, cheerless in the grey!”
“How do you like your life-rut, O’ Dismal One?”
“Remember; you are nothing.”
I would roar at them, had I a little strength left burning
But they’ve sapped and torn a heart, turned it to wool
Everything decays around me; an eternal slow autumn
The streets all run with hard rain and could-have-beens
A fan whirring dire predictions
I’d call for my dog; my warm-furred, wild half-wolf
He who knew how to comfort with a gentle headbutt
But he’s long dead, a fallen brother in a silent battle
No longer barking away the dreary morning’s silence
So now I fight alone
No denying this cold sunrise which burns nonetheless
Nor the fierce truth that it brings in slashes of shade:
Fear and loss and grief; this trio of grim companions
These, our harsh cohorts, at our side when all else dies
And even the sunrise dies
And we all fight alone.

Booker DeWitt: "No, but I'm afraid of you."

I have heard it said so many times, "no matter how long the night, the sun will rise again." But if the people who said that had the generous portion of half a brain, they'd realize that in saying that the opposite is also true: "no matter how long the day, night will come"
There is no escaping that, one day sadness will come and do its work.
Your write is an honest and magnificent reflection of that. I enjoyed every line, the sum of them has left their impression on me well.

Beautiful in it's starkness and suffering Bishop. This epitomizes my current state of on-going repairs against the ravages of time and trouble. This was one of the best and most depressing pieces I've read in ages. You've definitely captured that spirit of going out with a whimper. Now I'm depressed too, but in a good way; sharing in the misery without the schadenfreude. Cheers my friend - Dan

Until a soul has experienced a heart tearing, a life rendering to pain so intense it can not be described, they can not possibly relate to the feeling this write to aptly relays. Congrats on the Spotlight. This is excellent, despite its sense of total abandonment and hopeless emptiness. Excellent.

This is beautiful. This part particularly spoke to me:
Only in the quietest moments, your demons speak
To laugh behind their hands at unuttered distress
“Look at you, lying alone, cheerless in the grey!”
Congrats on your spotlight! Well deserved.

Bishop:
My favorite line
Deep motorcycle burbles from the soaking street This line was refreshingly drenching!
I liked the visual, sounds I got from it.
Great line.
I found the emotion in your words, express such heartfelt sorrow. In the daily life of a doleful soul who misses the comfort and love from those who have gone. It was so moving.
I dearly loved this.
Congratulations for being in The Spotlight!!!
Blessings

Hello Bishop,
So sad, so well expressed - the good thing is that you can release some of it by sharing.
A well-deserved spotlight.
In friendship,
Eric.

Your loneliness (if it is yours) is tangible. Very well written! Loss, loneliness, isolation: sad but a pleasure to read in your poem.
