lies not in the fruit itself,
crudely halved by teeth,
sucked dry by lips and tongue.
The beauty of a summer fruit
lies in the one who holds it,
close to the mouth,
while a napkin lies in waiting
and the bustle of the day
bustles calmly away,
and the half-empty seat
where she used to sit
becomes taken
crudely halved by teeth,
sucked dry by lips and tongue.
The beauty of a summer fruit
lies in the one who holds it,
close to the mouth,
while a napkin lies in waiting
and the bustle of the day
bustles calmly away,
and the half-empty seat
where she used to sit
becomes taken

Or is that seat perhaps half full I'm wondering OM? Seats and peaches, the halved and halved-nots - cheers! - Dan (that ugly and ominous stone always fascinates me; wrinkled like a corpus callosum)

Enjoyed reading your poem, O M.
Btw, at our stores, peaches arrive unripened, and that explains why, as far as I'm concerned, they remain partly eaten; all that aside, they are hard and flavorless. O M, do not despair; that half-empty seat still remains half-full. Nice write!

Thank you dwells, Jerryk and Jim for your read and response. I may do another peach piece. They're hot right now.

Where and how does one take that first, all-important bite could be critical; cheers again OM! - Dan

When they are prime, the nappy is a must, lest the juice soak into your clothes. Makes me long for summer.

Re: The beauty (of a partly eaten peach)
On a walk along the Delaware this morning I came across a half eaten peach perched on big chunk of driftwood.
I remembered this piece from a few months ago.
You're that good .

Re: The beauty (of a partly eaten peach)
Sadly this 1/2 eaten peach is now gone. 10 years. And too many teeth. I doubt someone can take her place. Nor would I want that, now?
