Hope For Humanity

Post by Loki'sMischief » June 8th, 2016, 4:39 pm

This is essentially the same subject as the first piece I posted in March. That one was from the perspective of the Greek gods determining our fate. This is from my perspective wondering the same thing with fewer metaphors and no allegory.

As I get older I find myself returning to the same question
Do I find enough reason to have faith in humanity?

Perhaps/ when war is just a word
And not a way of life that hatred stirred
Battle grounds that are neatly organized by lines
Whether drawn on maps or marked by street signs/

Perhaps when violence
Isn’t the only response to violence/

One day the long term affects
Might outweigh temporary victories
Eyes for an eyes,
Blindness caused by ego
There is no solution in this
Only an agenda
A point to prove//--

Perhaps one day we will be able to say
That all lives matter
A statement made as fact/ because it is true
But as of today people still have a street value/

By this I mean
That a person’s surface
Can be looked at to determine their worth
And based on nothing else
Calculate their potential to bring danger
To their environment/

I am tired of seeing phobia so easily
Suffixed to groups of people.
Hatred is not a diagnosable condition/

In the face of inequality
Society will still defensively cling
To an idea that progressive movements
Are overlooking the bigger picture/
But the bigger picture>
That s-----^is paint by number
And not all of our numbers
Have the same value/
It matters less if some of us are left a mess/

The significance of a life
Cannot be qualified or minimized
By being categorized/

Suffering cannot be compared
It cannot be run through a filter
Of what might be more or less audience friendly
We cannot stand with some victims
And ignore others
Because they’re more familiar with war
Because they’re not as easy to sympathize with
Because their countries are whispered about
Like we’re petty children in the lunchroom
And they are the outcasts/

Perhaps one day there will be no war, violence, or hate
When the things that make us all equal cease to be things we negate
Perhaps when the need to conquer begins to subside
When we are armed with love and there are no walls built to divide/

It is love that changes the world/
But I get it//

Love takes bravery^
It takes effort>
It takes putting oneself in an unfamiliar space
And human beings have had a history
With embracing familiar discomfort
Over change/

I still find hope
Needing less effort each day to search
For some sign that we’ll be alright/
Awareness and growth spreading
In the way we used advances in technology
To connect us on a deeper level as people
As a community/

Human beings have had this unique duality,
We are the only creatures capable of mass destruction,
Killing, not in order to survive, but to prove our point of being right/
Our awareness has always been on a higher level
We have let our ability to rationalize and question
Separate us from those we have seen as being different/

We are also the only creatures capable of seeing our potential
As a gift instead of a curse
We love with empathy
We love with completeness
For no reason other than having seen
Someone in need of being loved,
We are the only creatures capable of this level
Of connection,
To look at another’s, plight and go
I get that
I understand that
I have felt that
You do not feel this alone/

We are always growing
We are always learning
It is in the challenge
And the fight that I see from an enlightened flame
Recognizing that in spreading it does not die
But grows stronger, warmer, brighter/

I have faith in us/

Human beings/
The species that created fire
The species that turned fire into a metaphor/
I have seen the fires lit,
The fight fought
Against oppression, and injustice
Armed with love,
With words, and pens, and awareness
Instead of violence/

We are all equal/ We are all one/ It is the voices singing this in unison/ Directing this to film/ Speaking it in poems/ This is my reason to have faith in humanity
You, with strength in your voices
Refusing to be silenced
You, with hope in your words
With unity in your messages//

I listen to you and I know,
We’re going to be alright,
The future/ I am looking forward to the future

Wow, this is a really impressive OM piece. It has a tight lines, great language and rhyme as well, all of which are difficult to use well in OM. That aside the message itself was great. A thought provoking hopeful piece in the face of so much violence and hate and war, to long for something different, a life where all are equal and war is simply a word. Well written and thanks for sharing

Thanks for this message of hope in dark times LM, but I'm afraid that we're wired for survival of the fittest. Meaning "adequate" is not always enough. Somebody always wants to be the boss, and nobody wants to pick up the litter. Everybody is looking for an angle, and nobody is willing to make any painful concessions. But we can always hope for that elusive Utopia that exists somewhere surely. "Beam me up Scotty" and cheers! - Danny Downer

i agree with the main quest of this..
we are exploiting insecurities to secure a bliss
that fizzes and disappears, like mist
but the fear of the first will twist again
like an overdose lived, but the relapse
makes one do worst... pessimist....realist...
lists....lists..XD
great voice in this !
cheers
