Map of my Heart

Post by Ona Sabela » June 24th, 2016, 10:12 pm

My fingertips trace an idle path
across the tangled lines on the map,
clenching in irritation
over a certain place.
Why do I have to be stuck here,
in this miserable spot, when
all I want is to go home!?

Home...

Home.

The mere thought of that word
makes my throat swell with
unshed tears, while my
eyes start to burn from
holding in all the pain.
This ache lodged deep inside..

Seizing the map in my
trembling hands, I begin
to crumple it up,
tear it,
crush it,
toss away
this useless hope.

But another point tugs at my sight;
sighing, unfolding the map,
smoothing away a few creases,
I start exploring anew.

My frustration gives way to fascination;
there are more places, more of life to be lived...
I steady myself, comforted by the thought:
"Don't worry, I can make a new home."

I like this particularly the ending! Yes Ona There is adventure down the road, new discoveries, new or old marvels, [perhaps even new friends! All it takes is a willingness to explore, to dare.

The cycles of Life on old planet earth, often direct our journey to the world inside. And there is plenty green in the not yet discovered! Maybe our Home is in the heart of our heart, and it is sitting in the heart of a much larger Heart. But maybe that's just a mystery for another day. Very much enjoyed your poem!

I wondered whether this was a personal reflection, for I can't imagine living in a place that can never be called home.I hope that there is some resolution for you as time goes by, something or someone that changes your life..The poem was very heart rending..TY..Tangie..

Ona,
it's always good to shake the old dust off one's shoes and then move on to new adventures--or possibilities. I like that last verse in particular; it suggests that the narrator is well on the Road to recovery. Good title for a neat poem. Well done! :smile:

Living abroad for many years, I can completely relate to this. The longing for home, the pull of the unknown. Well-penned, thank you for this.
