Gnome

Post by godsplat » August 25th, 2016, 2:01 am

There is the rut in the grass, where I used to stand
Guarding the gates of an invisible man
I met him once, I think he shook my hand
But I can't be sure because his image was bland
Yup, thats the place where I had meaning
Keeping the wolves away through the night and day
I could have been a wheel or I could have been a dim light
I could have been a window or I could have been a fence
But I was none of those things
There is the rut in the grass where I fared all weather
For what felt like the longest time but not forever
Through years past, my colors have come to fade
Once so bright now they have greyed
Thats the place where my career started
But it seems my services have been parted
This will not bring my heart to harden
For here I stand retired, resting in this garden

Cute and clever. Garden gnomes have always reminded me of Christmas decorations.
I enjoyed this very much,

Hello godsplat. Pretty good poem. You never know, your subject could get kidnapped into adventure through the antics of a teenager running wild through the neighborhood at night. So long retirement right? Some kids made front page news in my town a while back. I think they stole as many garden gnomes as humanly possible. Well, until they got caught. Relaxing and quaint poem. Always a pleasure.
