With wrists held back, the binding ties keep hold
Chest left exposed, to the ever-changing tide
Just waiting for waves, to get swept away
The ocean breeze the only relief, the island serenity no comfort.
Lying on a bed of roses, surrounded by nothing but sand
the posts keep the limbs stretched and stressed
Like the heart after a long night alone
While the sun shines down, shadowed by clouds of despair.
Behind lies building after building, lining the sky
Such possibilities lurk under the skyline
But the distance is far, the path not straight
Such hope lies in the salvation of a new population, only one more soul.
A mere glance is too much, but a thought is too little
Of the world that could be, the future of forever happiness
The roadblock of insecurity stands tall, a sign indicating broken elevator
From earth, the ladder can`t seem to reach such heights
The sun and wind always present, and the clouds grow darker
The pleasure of being on a beach would be expected
But the ropes hide the smile from showing
And it`s hard to imagine the paradise all around

Re: Lying On A Beach
I would rather lie on a beach, all trussed up as described, than on an ant hill HL :)
Got the thought here of paradise lost, a captive, hog-tied for eternity as the city watches the last citizen; with a broken stairway to heaven. Just some thought your work inspired. Cheers and welcome to TPS! - Dan

Re: Lying On A Beach
When we think of a beach, we often picture it with bright sunny skies and over happy images and feelings; but here the beach is barren, void of cheery laughter. Where the beach is the divide between life and the final escape. At least that is what came to mind when I read this. Very interesting work.

This was such an interesting theme, It seemed being tied down was a metaphor for a societal numbness, where one could not find hope or joy anywhere, not even in an idyllic setting. The fourth stanza to me reflected an unstable world, where things are disintegrating..The flow and wording excellent for this angst poem...Tangie..
