Fleas (with apologies to Joyce Kilmer)

Post by terry » May 24th, 2016, 4:42 am

I think that I shall never see
a beast as loathsome as a flea.

A flea whose hungry mouth consumes
all the blood that it exhumes.

A flea that makes me scratch all day
and irritates in every way.

A flea that gets into my hair
and makes me scratch 'til I am bare.

Poems are made by fools like me,
but God should not have made the flea.

Am I wrong to picture this being a dog's favourite poem?

Liked this lots and it's pretty good word choice in how you made the (tiny) flea cause such (huge) problems.

Oh, I'm sure Joyce will forgive you, in fact, she would probably give a nod of approval to such goodly humour.

Thank you. Joyce Kilmer was a brilliant young poet who was tragically killed during WWI. You should google him.

Definitely not something to be missed! Remember one of my worst times was at the beach and brought home a massive number of 'sand flea's" - we were miserable!!

Don't face them much anymore with my dog gone and the yard "fleas-a-tized" - but we are ever on the watch!

My favorite over-the-counter product of recent years is called SARNA - dermatologist put me on it - wonderful for itching of any kind, and sunburn, poison ivy, plain-old-back-itch ... smear it on and and in a few minutes you realize the itch/pain is gone! Best of ever used in my 70+ years of itching . . . read the ingredients and it's a nothing - but feel the relief and you can't believe it was this simple...

enjoyed this...

what a wonderful whimsy and I loved reading it! Yes fleas are such a pain!
Now if I was a really creative writer I could whip up a rhyming verse to answer you with LOL but alas I don't have one. Just a Thumbs Up for a terrific poem! I've never heard of Joyce Kilmer. I'll have to look "him" up. thanks so much for the fun read! Rhonda

Joyce was a brilliant young poet, who died during duriong WWI. He never had the opportunity to have his work appreciated beyond that period, since he died in that war.,
