Colors

Post by soldierpoet » April 29th, 2017, 9:51 am

Children choose the things they like,
And pick their favorite hue
Mine was darkened shades of green
And certain tints of blue.

When I grew up, I had to join
And wear my favored green,
The color fit me, and I grew to love
My favorite shade of mean.

Then came tan, so far from home
My footprints buried in this sand
My comrades joining in the fray
Making freedom in this land.

A phone call here, a taste of home
A random letter from someone new
A hint of what we left behind
To cheer us up when we’d feel blue.

At last came white, as we flew home
The clouds all looked like cotton
Our earth bound cares so far below
The war all but forgotten.

So good to see the emerald forest
But ribbons changed this fellow,
While I still love green, and what it means
My favorite color’s yellow.

Why yellow?? obviously not cowardice.
neatly packaged writing, really meaningful words - good job.

Yellow ribbon is the "welcome home/bring them home" thing.

Well written, and thank you, SP, for your service. I truly honor and respect those who have put their lives on the line for America's freedom. Without you, we would be thralls, or dead. Thank you. Thank you very much indeed.
