Silence Reigns And Hides The Light (villanelle)
Post
by SITG » August 12th, 2017, 9:47 pm
As part of an assignment for an English class I took during the summer for fun we were doing poems. I thought I'd share it since the assignment was given a good grade and I really enjoyed writing it.
Silence Reigns And Hides The Light
A roar of thunder in the dead of night
Soft pattering rain against the cold
Silence reigns and hides the light
An ancient manor on hilltop height
Heritage fallen and bound in mold
A roar of thunder in the dead of night
A wealthy lawyer, slick and sleight
Encrusted luxury bound in gold
Silence reigns and hides the light
Shattering glass tumbles, tolling midnight
A broken man crashes and beholds
A roar of thunder in the dead of night
Memories flash at meeting eyesight
A family slain and court case sold
Silence reigns and hides the light
A muzzle drawn and a flash of white
A steady hand as Justice unfolds
A roar of thunder in the dead of night
Silence reigns and hides the light.
I slept in a garden
full of trees and plants,
surrounded by shade,
leaves, and flowers.
but when I wake
from that dream,
all I find
is dead grass.

Your sentence, "Silence reigns and hides the light." is very powerful and perfectly ends ends each paragraph.

Sometimes vigilante justice is all that remains SITG; still pondering the "hiding" aspect (to put things right - maybe?).

Very mysterious and spooky. Leaves me wondering more. Great imagery and flow.
Love this line:
Heritage fallen and bound in mold
Well Done.
I let the sun on my skin.
Pretend I don't burn
I'm not burning here.
I just lay ash
On my eyelids,
And rub it deep into my
Bones.
