Hatter

He’s had a lot to deal with I’m sure
for his very eyes lack lustre.
And it’s so unappealing this world,
that the deeper one tends to go,
the less shine one tends to have.
I suppose the earth is aptly named.
But I fear him tainted,
his eyes lifeless, and his smile gone.
He comes before me and courtesies,
taking off his hat as all gentlemen do.
And the only impression I got was:
“Absolute madness”
I however liked his hat.

Give me a paper,
and give me a pen,
I'll write justification,
I'll need it as well.

Ahh, the hat makes the man. Too bad John Kennedy stopped wearing hats, and thus began the downfall of mankind. I remain, a singular wearer of hats. Homburgs and Fedoras are my preferences, with Newsboy Caps a close follow-up. Baseball caps are NOT HATS.

Perhaps our friend needed a new suit to go with his hat. Dressing to the nines always lifts the spirit.

Thank you for this little insight into a drab life.

Every day, life is a test. Pass this test, and you get another day.
Go ask Alice, I think she'll know.

Hats are amazing
because when eyes are blazing
they need a reminder of god
and of some old cool monster's
black blood
of stars and cosmically hot
a burning like fire
maybe you caught the angels
of such desire..

Here, in my sunny part of the US, real Gentlemen still wear hats--straws in summer, felts in winter. One wouldn't catch me dead without mine, especially since I'm prone to melanoma. Baseball caps make me laugh, especially when they are worn backward. Do they make caps with the brim attached to the rear? That would be a great sales gimmick. All this aside, yours is a fine poem. Delighted reading it. Jerry
