It’s time, she thought with some sadness
Looking out at the two shade trees in the backyard
They had given her cool shelter through many youthful summers
But the trees, once loved, had begun to rot and things were changing quickly
Lawn services was due in the drive any minute now to take them -
They needed a safe place for lazy afternoons outside with the dog
With the baby
Her hand absently went to her stomach then
Though she wasn’t yet showing
A flutter of something new stirred inside
Yes, it’s time, she thought decisively
Standing there in the old house with new paint
Thinking of the perennials she could plant come spring
With an unobstructed view of the horizon

That far horizon, too long obscured, and now revealed again for the watchful eyes of another to behold. Excellent artistry OST and cheers! - Dan (but what to do with the swing?)

Wonderfully sad and joyful at the same time. A well deserved spotlight for this. Well done!

Re: Summer Trees
I remember reading this prior to its deserved migration to the Spotlight. I love the sigh of hope at the end. Change doesn't always have to be bad. (: What a wonderful encouragement this piece is.
