Once More

Post by MacUinseann » July 17th, 2018, 9:28 am

The world revolved once more
in rhythms ancient
Bringing us to same old seasons
that yet ferment in time
Who've changed in spite of them
cursing hurried endings
though every story's told

Still after all we've seen and heard
past pain we'd never forget
or what we'd never remember
The day comes new and old at once
slips in changes minuscule
Altering the rules we've learned
softening our apathy

The cold had since grown comfortable
demanding, normal in its paces
Still day comes new and old at once
As snow births rain,
conceiving life thought mastered

In a waking dream I pass
through this glen, untouched
With true companions, siblings all
braving waist-deep currents
and fallen trees unsteady

Back and forth
the talk's unhurried
How we'll get past there
or twilight's coming quickly
Its all so light and careless,
intrepid in its ease
The world's been lost
and all the better

My mind is soaked in green
summer's intoxication
Leaves consume the trees,
grasses carpet the soil
It glows and screams to the senses
connecting every moment
That this is life
renewed and overpowering
What is cold and what is death,
beaten, sad, or giving up?

The tide of Earth's virility
checked by savage will
The roads weren't always pleasant,
rather eternal torment
Fire, rage, oblivion
this is what I tasted
Every time the sun comes
and after it goes away
Berserk in its intensity,
the quiet voice of age

Something calls amongst the green
a shade now growing clearer

Pastel green, the shirt's calm color
clothing, protecting her
This is she,
smile true and innocent
Her cheerfulness lapping the sorrow
that came upon sunrise
Washing away, soothing away
what I thought sealed forever

The world revolved
and I believed once more

For in these darkest depths
we found we still believed
in these the hearts of summer

Yours is a powerful poem, taking me in several directions. The tone conveyed pure passion, and your word choice was particularly used for full effect.
I particularly liked:

It glows and screams to the senses
connecting every moment

Such vitality!

I really like this poem. It is one of those which requires multiple readings, and with each reading a new level of richness is unearthed.

The poem offers richness to discover; but is also a warning, "once more unto the breech, dear friends". Multidimensional, immersed in understanding, where the plot takes place on the crossroads of one's life. And yet, there is but one road to choose, hopefully the one on which you realize thyself. Thanks for the read.
