I didn't mean for this to happen.
We should have known better.
Between your catious attitude and my childish imagination,
we could have prevented this.
She doesn't have a name yet
but I call her Lucy, like your favorite show.
I didn't mean for this to happen.
We should have known better.
Between your religion and my spirituality,
we could have prevented this.
She's growing up so fast;
we'll have to make the decision soon.
Do we want to keep her?
Do we even want to keep each other?
This will bond us for life, afterall.
I know that your mind is made up: No.
But can't it change?: No.
I can't let you do this, but I have no choice.
It's not my decision.
She's half of you and half of me;
isn't it my decision too?
I didn't mean for this to happen, you say.
We should have known better.
Between your youth and my maturation,
we could have prevented this.
You're wrong; I couldn't stop you.
It wasn't my choice.
You tried to kill the baby.
You succeeded.

wasn't it my decision too?

about as raw as poetry gets, the repetition and narrative structure captivate and move the reader to the point of tears, gosh, meadow

Oh my gosh.. this was very painful for me to read. I don't want to say too much on this because it's a delicate subject, but it's true how we often overlook the men's choice in an abortion.. the baby is just as much as his as it is her's, though everyone calls it the woman's choice. I really don't think that's fair. This was written very well, my friend. Be well.

Dark and macabre.. But I love this style of writing.. It's drenched in pain, I write about pain a lot, so I know these feelings. Brilliant work.

I really appreciate this. It's close to home for me and gives a great perspective on the mans side. Painful, but real and it moved me.

Zombie,
I so admire the courage and strength it took for you to write this. This is the true essence of poetry ... one is not afraid to let free their honesty and share it. I felt your pain the entire time I was reading it, and then just wanted to hug you. Thank-you for sharing it with us. It could not have been easy. Very moving piece.

Writing my poetry is a passion. Reading your poetry is a privilege.

Re: Aborting Lucy
i really liked the reasoning that was given for why this thing ought not be so: between your X and my Y, etc...
i think anyone who has gone through the troubles and heartaches of an unplanned pregnancy will find some kind of strong connection to this piece. well done and brave.

Re: Aborting Lucy
Simply....amazing.
When angels fall on broken wings
Their silent cries can mean one thing
Death has come and death with be
The only thing that conquers me
Their silent cries can mean one thing
Death has come and death with be
The only thing that conquers me
