A Sad Legacy

Post by sparky21737 » July 18th, 2014, 6:17 am

Up these tall and winding crests, we bear this path of death
An ugly scar across the land, we steal the Earth of breath
Prides befallen human kind and empty words are spoken
Our ignorance has blinded us, our Earth is surely broken
What legacy will we hold, when all of us have gone?
To have created this destruction, an Earth that’s so forlorn
Is this the legacy you want to be remembered by?
To have sat back and watched as the Earth began to die
Just remember, time will pass, our memories will fade
And the Earth around will slowly heal from the destruction we have made
But still our legacy will remain though generations pass
And though the Earth will heal our selfishness will last
Just remember, time will pass, and all manmade will die
Will crumble to dust beneath the tortured sky
And I can see you know, beneath those ill-begotten smiles
If this is what I’ll be remembered for
I’d rather stay forgotten

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light ~ Albus Dumbledore

Sad indeed sparky, and I know what you mean by the last line, ultimately we are all culpable :(
Maybe 'past' or 'passed' line 11? mx

How many times must we write of this subject? How many times is it ignored? I wrote on the same subject called "Who Will Clean the Stains". One reply floored me. Yes, we are all culpable. Some of us more than others. Thank-you for sharing and trying to keep the awareness alive! Love the word usage and flow.

It's frightening knowing what kind of world we are leaving our children and any they may have. There's no doubt we all share in this ,whether by complicity or inaction. Thank you for sharing this,

The poem is quite good. I suppose that if we push harming nature far enough, we will be remembered millions of years in the future, up to a point, by archeologists from a new intelligent species which will evolve, or at least, as long as the amount of methane hydrate doesn't add enough carbon upon melting that it produces a runaway greenhouse that makes us into something like Venus. I wonder if Venus once had a civilization that did just that to their planet?
