I was once of the opinion
That being into lots of things tallied up to something-
It was important: knowledge equalled addition.
I thought feelings from each quarter could be nurtured and plucked
And blended together into a priceless whole;
A kind of worldly, smug infusion.
Turns out it's far better to feel just one, or maybe two things
And spare yourself the juggling, the confusion.
Or better still, be oblivious to the options-
Inhabit one lane, be digestible.
Clarity is investable.
People either want this or that, there's no time
For an Eton Mess of a mind, attempting to mean
Everything to everybody.
Through single mindedness you can make real enemies.
And money.
Pondering the details is almost perverted, like asking
Why bread goes with butter, or lungs go with air.
Why does it matter? Why do you care.
Best to forget all that and do whatever it is you do.
If you’re unsure what that is
Then God help you.

Re: Variety
I think this sentiment is part of why I started writing in the first place. I could be many things and wear many faces without the complication of such things in real life. Life has a funny way of lashing us back into a path whether we like it or not. Very well written piece.
As others were -- I have not seen
As others saw -- I could not bring
My passions from a common spring --
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow -- I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone --
And all I lov'd -- I lov'd alone --

Re: Variety
Hi
We all believe we have a purpose in life. Sometimes that purpose becomes apparent early in life. Sometimes, though we struggle to fined our true calling, we never do find it. If all else fails, the meaning of life is to continue life. That should suffice for the most of us.
