Goodbye Letter

Post by stillcontagious » May 1st, 2012, 6:13 am

We can call it love.
Not the kind that people die for
But the kind I live for-
When it's gentle
and blowing like a breeze through my hair-
Easy. Like rain that falls into the potted plants on my grandmother's roof.

I believed you felt what I felt.
That there was something important in our meeting.
Not in the desperate and
"suicide or love" kind of way,
But in a "this is the easiest paradise I've
found" kind of way.

Where we didn't have to always talk about things.
Where we didn't have to fight and struggle-
Where we could just be together and enjoy
the pleasures of flesh and fantasy.
Of music. Of air, breathing it in and exhaling out.

The rhythm of our togetherness in perfect
cadence with the nature of our meeting-
unexpected and welcome.

When I had felt like an island...

and all I said was, "Hi."

Survived my city burning! Now it's only me on fire.

I am ContagiousNonsense. You'll see.

What I love about this is that it shows the gentle tender side of love, that third stanza was just so evocative for me. It's such a beautiful piece with it's flowing lines and the hints of sadness, especially in the opening line second stanza. It's such a pleasure to read your work, thanks so much for sharing.

I loved you then, I love you still though we are shadows of our former glory
Though they try to kill us off, we are a never-ending story

Whether intentional or merely a product of your sparkling poetic mind, I love how the style of this creates a sense of back and forth. There are lines which are more conversational (ugh, hate that word when describing a poem - I'll trust you know what I mean by it) and thrown out there, followed by lines of immense poetic value and worth, still delivered so casually. I won't pick them all out, I'll just say that this managed me make me smile from ear to ear and the fourth stanza is so beautiful it is a poem on it's own.
Always a fan.

We can call it love.
Not the kind that people die for
But the kind I live for- love this!

I breathe. I love. I praise. I laugh. I mourn. I fight. I write. I share. I smile. I continue.

I'm glad this could be enjoyed. It is difficult to say goodbye to those we found kinship with... does this help? It helped me stop the pounding of my heart in my head so I could sleep.

A goodbye letter, but one which starts from a hello, then wraps the reader up in a delightfully engaging narrative which is deceptively simple to look at, but so precisely paced and persuasive that I know it's far from simple.
I love seeing you write with a gentle side, yet it still has the perceptible pulse of life and flare for phrasing which marks it as very much a stillcontagious poem.
A pleasure to read this one again poetess. Congratulations on the spotlight!

A 'Goodbye Letter', huh? There is such honesty and warmth in the poem, but not a clue for me to understand the title. It sounds like the Narrator and the 'one' being addressed belong together. Is Narrator dying? Are the two related or do they have an impossible situation that keeps their relation from continuing? Whatever it is, I love the sentiments expressed and applaud the TPS Spotlight pick.

The first 3 lines locked me in and the rest of the poem did not disappoint! I'm afraid that if I read this on a cold, drizzly day I might descend into a nostalgic morass from which I would never return! Congrats on the well-deserved spotlight.
