Leaves

Post by Afishamongmany » February 5th, 2013, 4:25 pm

LeAvEs
How they have fallen,
Laying thick,
Pressing the jostling grass

Under them.
Obliterating it from sight.
Their browns and yellows brighter
Than the grey above.

Achieving a moment of glory,
In death a dominance.
Looking up to freed branches
Framing veiled light,
Had they thought to fly,
Letting go their source of life?

How they have fallen!

Thank you Fatsolicious and welcome to TPS. I don't know if your signature poem is yours but it is sweet and disturbing. Look forward to seeing your work.

An interesting write. Descriptive and poetic. The autumnal colours are a nice touch.

I love the colors! For many it's that time of year and certainly the colors are beautiful. I thought the ending was interesting. They triumphed in their beauty but also caused their death. How tragic

Watching the leaves fall to the ground or swept across the yard by the wind is an inviting autumn experience, but your last stanza took it to a different level.
'In death a dominance.
Looking up to freed branches
Framing veiled light,
Had they thought to fly,
Letting go their source of life?
How they have fallen!'

By personifying the leaves, I thought about the dead being personified and looking back on their lives. Driving a speeding car, they might have felt like they were flying, only they lost their source of life. Like the leaves, they might have realized, 'How they have fallen!"

I agree with The ghost. This is truly a very beautiful piece. Heartrending and lovely all at once. Don't know if words can do it justice.
