Memorial Day

Post by The Poet Jonah » May 26th, 2013, 11:22 pm

All The stars of tomorrow's evening desires
Are buried in the overshadowed ridges
Of an idled morning's industry;
The colorless breath of war
Frantic in the blood
Of all the world's whispering lovers,
How the wonders of devotion
Fasten themselves
To a ceiling barely held together
And just above your head:
All the mortal dreams
Of your undying adolescence.
Those dreams like fireworks
On the other side of the trees
Just outside your window,
Flashes of light that barely slip through
To claim the dark and empty cavities
Smoldering in the wonderful expanse
Between your skin and the wall.

Such a beautiful work!
I think the imagery here was really fantastic and it was neatly put with such effective wording.
A striking memorial.
Thank you so much for sharing.

This was penned very well. The imagery was very captivating and your use of language was precise. A well penned memorial piece.

Well penned and I think, on my point of view, lovers of today meets the lovers of the past

In your eyes, I see nothing but sadness
In your heart, I see its emptiness
In your emotions, I see nothing but loneliness
In your thoughts, I see the thoughts of decay and death
Yet I am here, the one you need
To write all of what you see,
of what you feel
of what you think

The Poet Jonah , an exceptional piece, the deep and complicated, inner thoughts and feelings of a moment expressed in arresting images that communicate truly.

For me this reads as a poem about giving thanks for the sacrifices which allow youths to enjoy their adolescence without a care in the world. Even though they may live life in ignorance of history, that history is still part of who they are and the freedom they enjoy. Rather than being confrontational, I found this to be a cajoling piece and a reminder for all, even those of us not in the first flush of youth!
Congratulations on the spotlight!

I love this idea of 'between the skin and the wall'. That's a very interesting image. I adore this. Congrats on a well deserved spotlight!

Congratulations for your poem's spotlight recognition. "Memorial Day" was thought provoking and I reread it several times.
"All the mortal dreams
Of your undying adolescence"
I think it is wonderful how our minds can put us back in time and in a way give us undying adolescence, but sometimes I wish the mirror would go along with that thought. About those mortal dreams, I am glad time frees us from some of them.

"Flashes of light that barely slip through
To claim the dark and empty cavities
Smoldering in the wonderful expanse
Between your skin and the wall."
The first two lines really left an imprint. Maybe they are part of the flashes of light that makes me feel like I've gained a great insight.
Thank you for sharing.

I liked the flow, cadence, and rhythm of this piece. You capture this celebration of life and the sorrow of those that don't come home with captivating imagery that was pointed out in above posts. Congrats on the spotlight. Enjoyed the read.
