cash is the new god

Post by rayofsun214 » May 18th, 2012, 10:09 am

Your money doesn't impress
the likes of me,
but baffles me.
The way it weaves
in and out
of your style and creates
holes where
your lack of grace
permeates and digs.
Nothing is still
nothing.

Some wonderful images in this, especially for an OM - really striking piece, and glad I got to read - can't wait to see more of your work around here!

"Nothing is still
nothing."

How true! Makes me think of how paper money is still paper... easily printed and still no more valuable than printer paper. When I read your title I get the vibe of the American motto "In God We Trust" which each and everyday gets less and less meaningful.

Perhaps "In Cash We Trust" would be more appropriate?

Love sharp, witty short poems like this that pack a punch without bringing the whole dictionary down on your head. There's power in simplicity, my friend.

Enjoyed your poem... says a lot!

This was such a strong, convincing write. The tone was set from the first line, it was very unyielding. I liked the progression of this poem and the overall metaphor of this piece is so meaningful. Congrats on the spotlight, Rae!!

Brilliant image of the vulgarity of flaunting wealth. There is an old saying that "manners maketh man". and this brings it home quite forcefully. Congratulations on winning the Spotlight.t

True and very well executed. Cash is not the most important thing to obtain in life, for what is the importance in something that doesn't last?

Concise and forceful enough to be cutting about the subject matter, yet in line with the title I can't help but feel like there's a strong element of sadness to this one too; there are many who believe cash is the new God, and as this points out, it leaves a hole in those who worship at its altar.
Congratulations on the spotlight!

Hi rayofsun214,

Yes, 'you can't make a silk purse out of a sow's ear' comes to mind. I guess N wasn't enamoured with S (Lol).

Thanks for the read.

Go well

How true, how true...I tease my wife sometimes for having 'poor vanity' because she thinks everyone with money is hollow...but in many cases, she is right and no wallet is fat enough to forgive a lack of gentle grace in a person! Well said - Dew
