The dolphins were singing in Chessamy Bay in the evening
the sun was declining to slip off the end of the Earth
Young Anabel Miller could only sit patiently waiting
stretching the minutes and making them more than their worth.
She'd packed everything that she thought she'd be needing for leaving
and written a letter explaining as best as she could
it wouldn't be long 'till she lay in the arms of her lover,
her young heart was pounding in time with the child in her womb.
Home-coming sea-gulls leave messages in sea shells
that whisper them into the sand
the water is rising, inside she is crying
A gold ring for Anabel's hand.
The rollers were frothing and prancing like cats on the shingle
the Sun was descending and kissing the waters goodbye
a moon in the rising was sprinkling light on the ocean
her future was somewhere behind on the edge of a knife.
A promise too easily made had been cruelly broken
her hopes began fading and floating away on the tide
the comforting words that her lover had earlier spoken
were echoes of promises made in the heat of the night.
Home-coming sea-gulls leave messages in sea shells
that whisper them into the sand,
the water is rising, inside she is crying,
A gold ring for Anabel's hand.
When sunlight was playfully skimming the waves in the morning
her suitcase was laying alone at the end of the strand
the dolphins were wailing a song of lament in the distance
Anabel Miller's young body would never be found.

I am afraid the weather is playing havoc with my satellite, so will try another time for you tube. This seems like a very sad ballad D, and I can't wait to hear it to music.Thinking back to times like that, there weren't many viable options for women if the man was a cad.Great song..Tangie..

Re: Anabel Miller
I'll open the link later as well, because I really would like to listen to this, but now I can't, anyway, I love how you enriched with wonderful imagery, how the first verse echoes the last yet with different voice, the chorus was wonderful as well with tongue-twister first line, and I think this tells a relatable story to many put with very good lyrics.
Very nice work!
<edit> back as promised to say, I Love, love, love the music! now along with music, this is definitely a brilliant song, I would love to listen to again!

My heart is open to you Sasha. Thank you for that. She woke me up in the night and gave me the words and the tune in one hit. Gratefully,

Hi Dornicks,
Today I heard your song, it is really beautiful, one of the best I've ever heard on this page. You have great imagination and perfect phrasing. Is it you who is singing? :)

Re: Anabel Miller
A sad tale all too commonplace, when the young girls give their hearts over to raging hormones and smooth words softly spoken. This put me in mind of Longfellow there for a while, although the name was more Poeish. Much enjoyed the artistry Dornicks, cheers! (I always thought those seagulls were gossips)

Beautifully written and magnificently sung to such a sweet yet sad tune. A different side of you and a very touching tale. This is placed in its deserved place in TPS Spotlight.

Congratulations and thanks for the wonderful journey, read and music, what a wonderful blend. It made me think of Old English black and white films, a lady pacing in her black shawl. Well done. Loretta

Re: Anabel Miller
Hearing this as a song really reinforced my sense that it had come from another time, 19th century or earlier, a ballad to educate young girls about the perils of love or sin! The very moralistic undercurrent (also characteristic of an earlier time), however, does not diminish the poem/song as a tragedy, a wrenching story of innocence and betrayal.
Great job!

Re: Anabel Miller
Oh my the intensity here is so very capturing. I had this sense when I read the third stanza that this would end so tragically. There was something ominious and truly chilling to me, and alas those next stanzas were unnerving and sad. What a journey you have taken us on, with this. It has always been a pleasure to read your works, this reads a bit different than your norm, but my goodness it is still so very enthralling and intense. Love, love, love this from start to end. A haunting write! Congrats on the Spotlight!

Re: Anabel Miller
It was lovely to be able to hear this one performed, I think the singer did the words justice too, she has just the right tone and voice for the lyrics. I thought the chorus was particularly brilliant, although every verse was as well crafted, and the narrative aspect of this is so strong too. It's a haunting and tragic story, but it's told with superb lyricism.
Excellent work, and many congratulations on the spotlight.
