Traffic Jam

Post by bandgeekfreak » August 18th, 2013, 9:35 pm

Broken glass floods the street,
Shattered dreams come in the crumpled body,
Lying silently on the street,
Waiting to be drug away from the horror,
As tears stream and shrieks scream out,
In the beautiful day suddenly turned dark,
No one knows,
No one cares,
As they drive past,
Only seeing flashing lights,
And traffic jams.

Sometimes it does seem like people only find the traffic jam more important than the lost soul on the ground.. Wonder if God likes those people? Valentine

For some people it's like watching a train wreck, they just can't take their eyes off of it as if they might miss somthing! You captured that almost daily happening to a tee. Nicely done.

A sombre topic. Interesting that a poem can be found in any situation, you presented the scene so well.

What a powerful metaphor, bgf! Filled with vivid images that tear out the heart, and then the poem shifts to indifference, which could be the greatest tragedy of all. Great poem.

I must echo AMD,

While the loss of life in this piece is heart breaking.y' It is humanity's indifference which is the most profound tragedy.

Thanks much for sharing.

I hate to think that people can be this callous, but then in big cities it is so routine a happening that no one thinks about it.Well done poem that reflects apathy in our society..Tangie..

At first I imagined a war zone, a bomb attack and then I realized this is something more intimate, the sort of disaster people can drive past knowing it isn't there life that has been torn down. Well done and congratulations.

You often hear about people 'rubbernecking' at a car crash as they crawl past on the motorway, and it is fairly grim way of passing the time. This poem goes a stage further, and looks at the typical reaction to a hold up on the roads - it's a devastating indictment on humanity that we could only see the delay to our journey and not care about the loss of life. Sometimes poetry presents an uncomfortable truth; your poem does that without shouting or screaming, it presents the images and is a deeply emotive and saddening piece because of it.
Congratulations on the spotlight, well deserved.

Move along now, nothing to see here, keep it going - all too true! A minor inconvenience of major personal implications, to somebody - well done!

Indeed, it's like people don't care about the cause of this 'traffic jam' and sympathise a bit unless it's something related to them. Powerful wording with a rocking message.
Congratulations on the Spotlight, BGF!

Well done on the spotlight, a thought provoking scene and an exposure of the less attractive side of humanity, thanks for sharing mx
