The Garden

Post by Spear_Sister » December 7th, 2013, 5:40 pm

The Garden

The sparrows’ song
The scent of honeysuckle dew
A white blossom blooms and needs
Not ask forgiveness
For being beautiful

Growing wildly and untethered
Nurtured by the
Melody of nature, and the
Touch of the heavens

Crimson flourishes amidst
The thorns and aphids
Earth’s secrets divulged
In the briar and bulbs
Breaking through a toiled surface

Yet the Evergreen thrives
Kissing life into this wonder
Not of man
But by His gentle slumber

That was quite a beautiful read; your take on the subject was breezy and full with wonderful images, as each part has a great descriptive quality, and yeah, 'not of man' all this beauty, as most likely he destroys rather than constructs.
Great work!

The garden is a spiritual place, and you manage to evoke that feeling, for me, in this poem. I don't understand anyone who can walk by nature, in the wild or in a garden and not feel the spirit of it. Well done.

I love the journey this (w)rite takes you on, for the words put forth imagery that can only exist with sound. Remarkable diction and structure…exceptional flow with a caressing grace. There is a dream-like edification throughout this piece that seems to call to the spirit with a personalized invitation. Congratulations on the Spotlight, for it is greatly deserved.

The first stanza blew me away! Much truth and honesty in the simple things, and the best the world has to offer, without any cost or consequence - cheers and congrats SS!

Beautiful poem, and imagery, nicely detailed. Especially liked "Kissing life into this wonder
Not of man But by His gentle slumber". Nice work:)

I think the message can be boiled down to this: "Growing wildly and untethered."

But, of course it is more than that.
There is quite a heavy pulse beneath this gently ringing poem.
Brings to mind the story of the Garden of Eden.

I think flux nailed it with his comment ..."The garden is a spiritual place, " and your words brought out all it's wonderfulness. Very nicely, well done, my friend. Beautiful piece.

I was very surprised that this poem was selected for Spotlight, as it is much more peaceful and calm than anything I usually write (which actually is probably why it was selected, now I think of it!).
I moved into a house just over half a year ago where the previous owners had really neglected the garden so I started working on it, bringing it back to life and planting new things. Now that I see all the hard work I have done flourishing before me, it really inspired me to write this piece. The garden really is a reflection of myself in a lot of ways, especially being 'wild and untethered' and it has been almost like a spiritual epiphany coming to that realization. Thanks again for the great comments :-)
