I loved the juxtaposition between the fire and the water. Your explanations in the comments helped me understand this poem more, but I first read without seeing your commentary to glean some other insight. So, the poem definitely conveys what you desired it too... The feeling of being trapped on the bridge with storm brewing behind you... But my first impression as a reader was the difference between water and fire. That you can tell a story like this and have it 1) means something specific that you intend it to mean and also 2) create a metaphor that readers can apply to their own situations really shows that this piece is worth of the TPS spotlight. Really glad it was selected!

I really felt the suspense build in this one. Thanks for poetizing this experience for us to read!

The saying 'caught between a rock and a hard place' is a bit of a cliché, but this poem seemed to embody that feeling of being trapped and out of options. I really like what Miharu pointed out about this one too - even though it's a literal experience, it actually works as an allegory for less life-threatening situations in life where we have no choice left but to hope for a miracle.
Enjoyed reading this one again, and congratulations on the spotlight!
