The Very Smart Man

They entered with a reverence not earned and minds naively open.

And although I once before set out with a mind open to truth, expectations of truth fulfilled were, as justified by experience, low.

I knowing his goal to prove he was, at least more than us, a very smart man... I waited for him to take the stage.

And then, lights up!

Enter Bravado, Enter Eros , Enter Maestro d'Ego...three persons in one. At first impression a living icon, then time by time withering, not from natural cause or passage of time, but from familiarity.

And as if unaware of fatal flaws and contradictions in the plot he performs:

Act I : Trust
Act II: Trap
Act III: Betray

Even so, it was, as always, a good show, less from the heart more from the head...calculated cunning, devoid of feeling, orchestrated and perfectly played, proving once again, he is a very smart man.

Excellent ending. People attribute great intellect to people with a great ability to manipulate....because "nobody can manipulate me...if I agree with him its because we're both so smart". I have to do this for a living (for good, not evil! I promise!) and it's just a unfortunate bit of fortune that in getting folks to agree with you, a byproduct is mistakes they make about the level of your genius. Ah well...heh. Great write!!!

If I haven't already said so, welcome to TPS! I hope you find a home in the sanctuary! - dew

An excellent 3rd line - just my cynical type of humour...
Familiarity also has a way of lessening 'gods among us',
once we get to see that they are human too...
interesting work - thanks.
