Everyone

Post by John.Carter » April 20th, 2017, 8:19 am

Somewhere, someone's heart is beating fast
As they kiss their new lover for the first time
Or face a fear they've not yet conquered

Somewhere a new child sleeps on its mother
While somewhere else, a grandfather slips away
In his sleep

Life happens all around us all the time
In places we will never go, to people we will never meet
Joy and sorrow come to us all

The emotions you have are not yours alone
They connect you to every other person on Earth
And empathy will teach you that

The understanding that we are all the same
That we are intertwined with love and grief
Will open your heart to the world

So do not cage your soul with hate
Do not let yourself be preyed upon
By those who would tell you how to feel

The simplest thing you will ever do
Which is also the hardest thing
Can set you free

Open yourself to the possibility
That the rest of the world
Feels the same way you feel

Everyone loves, everyone fears
Everyone feels desire and shame
Everyone includes you, and you are not alone.

Our big eyes and technology have become partners, and they are no longer silent. In my opinion, we are distracted, and we don't even know we're being preyed upon. We were designed to handle a great deal, but we are creating something ridiculous. Pressure is coming earlier and continues building, I'm afraid our thickening skin will not be able to keep up. I pray that we remember the simpler things that you have mentioned. The things everyone can relate to, because they bring us together.
Thank you so much for sharing!
David

A very good thought in the sixth stanza! Heavenly Father tells us how to feel; to love God with all our heart and to love our neighbor as ourselves! (Mark 12:30-31) Thanks for the reminder. anthony

There is a deep truth that moves through this poem that I believe is the same as John Donne was communicating in his poem "No man is an island". This puts you in very good company indeed! The reader is invited to step out of their silo and become aware of the world of common experience, which is, I think, enriching. Thanks for sharing this one!

Remember, in order to facilitate community development, comment on 3 poems for every one that you post.

Earth is not only for us, we call human, but also myriad other creatures and they don't say a word just letting us human do whatever we want to. Without Nature and the whole universe we can't survive. Life weighs the same. I don't know what to do but as you imply, I see people/everything like I see myself. Thanks for sharing.
