Broken Bulb

Broken Bulb

The broken bulb that rarely blooms
To break on through its earthen tomb
Assumed deceased beneath decay
Through dreary, dark and dormant days
Now reaches forth, intent to touch,
Light...

Yet the swallow swoops, stealing
The soul of sapling growth
Hail pelts - punishing precious petals
Rain ravages, drenches, drowns
Wind bites, lashes, batters - breeding
Resistance...

Is this, the pointlessness of grasping
Beauty, fleeting? The effort!
The uselessness of loving,
When love dies so easily.

The Caretaker gives up
His hands broken and bleeding
Never noticing the flourishing bloom
He is forever leaving

“I have no use for people who have learned the limits of the possible.”
― Terry Pratchett

Very well written, it took me on a sad journey. I loved the imagery and the metaphorical possibilities.

From childhoods hour I have not been
As others were -- I have not seen
As others saw -- I could not bring
My passions from a common spring --
From the same source I have not taken
My sorrow -- I could not awaken
My heart to joy at the same tone --
And all I lov'd -- I lov'd alone --

such a sorrowful tale, and even after all than endurance the ending was just so sad! lovely writing - a well woven tale.

Life is a struggle. The alliteration pulled and gave form to the poem. The hope of the planter who may never see a bloom gifts the rest of us who may welcome the caretaker's efforts. Love is never useless. Thanks for sharing.
