Moment

Post by bunsen » December 23rd, 2018, 1:02 am

Moment
There was a moment
lying in the dark
between heartbeats
a voice spoke
not mine not a dream's
nor anyone else's
but just that
a voice
timed between the opening and closing
of valves so well suited
to their opening and closing
they had not stopped
since they started blindly
in a protoplasm
knowing only
they should open and close
and still knowing only this
the voice could not stop them
even if it had wanted to
even if I had wanted
even if just for a moment
they would know
something other than
what they know

Lying in the dark
head against the pillow
eardrum
beat of my heart
like an old friend too drunk to leave
too drunk to sleep
half asleep or not
a voice spoke
it may have been mine
or a dream
or anyone
and said nothing really at all
but timed itself perfectly
between the opening and closing
of valves so well suited
to their opening and closing
they had not stopped
since they started blindly
in a protoplasm
knowing only
they should open and close
and still knowing only this
this moment would not stop them
even if it wanted to
even if I wanted
even if just for a moment
they would know
something other
than what they know

Thanks. Made an edit. Not sure if it's worth a damn or not.
And many happy returns to you and yours.

So good to read like it just seems to suit structure and form to flow to fix. Cheers.

Fascinating poem and most deserving of a spotlight. Love every word of this. Even the pre-edit blew me away. Well done!
