The Author's Childhood (Sonnet+Villanelle)

Post by Azfar » February 9th, 2020, 2:15 pm

The Author's Childhood

A breeze of calm at nights adjourn
The pieces of the puzzles at their place
Where wayward faring hours overlap the day
And they dispatch at night in mighty pace
Where is its end, but at its crossroads lie
What futures represent, still there I sigh

In offering repentance, I must mind
Regrets that flowed the wat'ry ends of fate
Though much unable, it is worth to note
That destiny has changes never late
Where is its end, but at its crossroads lie
What futures represent, still there I sigh

To leave these states of pleasing ironies
I can't be much so sure; though love and hate
Exist together in this issue here
With paradox, indeed, I have a date
Where is its end, but at its crossroads lie
What futures represent, still there I sigh

I love to stay but I must go from here
And thus decide who I should truly be
But fear is, I do dislike this fear,
I may descend, forever losing this
Where is its end, but at its crossroads lie
What futures represent, still there I sigh

Let go, this era's passed so long ago
And that the age of ponder's not yet come
Look up the stars and see the past that is
Yet by this vision, it is present now
And future is what comes from its perception
As the memory establishes
Where is its end, but at its crossroads lie
The wonder what the future represents
And yet I find myself away, looking at a boy
Still looking at the stars, at where I sigh.

(Note about the form: This is a combination of the French Villanelle and the Shakespearean Sonnet, it has 5 stanzas composed of 4 six-lined stanzas that serve as the "building point" of the entire poem, with the last two lines serving as the "foreshadowing", which expands at the 5th stanza in which the author finally spills the beans or tells the story associated with the entire poem.)

 Az old friend!
Welcome once again to our humble abode; be gone no more, or kiss a toad.
Always takes me away in the spirit of the lingo you have mastered, and herein captured..
Many cheers - Dan

Impressive construction! Enjoyed the image and the tension associated with awareness of simultaneous actions/feelings in the present and the past. It felt like time travel.

Wonderful poem! Well deserving of the spotlight! I love poetry that makes me think, especially about the tiny point in space where we interpret time flowing underneath the light converging unto Earth. Always a pleasure. Brad -

Absolutely stunning and a very transporting piece. A clearly person piece that speaks to many universal truths. And the construction! I know it has already been commented on but it is so meticulous and well thought out, not a word or thought out of place. I will need to pour over this many more times. In the meantime, thank you.
